K-8 Social Studies Curriculum
The Board of Regents, at the April 29, 2014 meeting, adopted the New York State K-12 Social Studies Framework as the foundation for Social Studies standards and curriculum in New York State. This Framework was revised in 2016 and 2017 and is now fully implemented in grades K-12.
New York State has five specific content areas for standards:
- History of the United States and New York
- World History
- Geography
- Economics
- Civics, Citizenship, and Government
In grades K-8, the Bedford Central School District uses materials from the BOCES SS/ELA curriculum to teach the K-8 NYS Social Studies Framework. Here are the concepts taught at each grade level:
